Creighton has landed the first commitment for its 2026 recruiting class in Storm Lake, Iowa, wing Jaidyn Coon.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing called the coaches on Wednesday to announce his commitment. Creighton made him a priority, hosting him in Omaha and visiting him in Storm Lake multiple times. A four-star recruit, Coon is ranked 108th in the 247Sports Composite and is the second-ranked player in Iowa.

Creighton beat out the Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, Nebraska and others for his commitment. Iowa made a strong push after new coach Ben McCollum, who grew up in Storm Lake, took over in Iowa City.

He averaged 23.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 55.7% from the field (33.8% from 3) and 68.2% from the free-throw line as a junior, leading Storm Lake to a 22-2 record and the program’s first state tournament appearance since 1994.

Coon averaged 19.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.4 blocks as a sophomore. He also led the Tornados as a freshman, averaging 13.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks. Coon will carry 1,229 career points and 538 rebounds into his senior season.

Coon is an explosive athlete who can finish above the rim and excels in transition. He uses that athleticism to be disruptive on defense and can also shoot from the perimeter.

The newest Bluejay will compete with D1 Minnesota this weekend at the Adidas 3SSB tournament at the Iowa West Fieldhouse in Council Bluffs.
