Creighton men’s basketball announced Friday that sophomore forward Jackson McAndrew will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season with a foot injury.
“I feel so bad for Jackson, who had a terrific summer preparing for his sophomore season,” Coach Greg McDermott said in a release. “We’ll support him throughout the rehab process and look forward to his healthy return in 2026-27.”
McAndrew initially suffered a foot injury during the preseason, forcing him to miss Creighton’s exhibition against Iowa State. He returned to the court for the Bluejays’ second exhibition against Colorado State and started each of the team’s first four games this season. However, he only logged eight minutes against North Dakota on Wednesday before sitting out the second half.
“He’s had a foot that’s bugged him a little bit all year, and he said he really felt it at shoot around today, and he gave it a go and was really having a hard time pushing off of it,” McDermott said after the game. “It’s not something that’s new; it’s kind of been nagging for a while. It’s the same thing that kept him out of Iowa State, so it’s just kind of been a nagging thing that’s a little bit painful to play with.”
Further tests appear to have indicated something more serious for the 6-foot-10 sharp-shooter, creating a big void in Creighton’s lineup.
The program’s highest-rated recruit in the recruiting website era came off the bench for the first five games of his freshman season before starting the final 31. He averaged 7.8 points and 4.4 rebounds while setting a freshman program record with 69 3-pointers, connecting at a 35.4% clip. McAndrew closed the season on a high note, scoring in double figures in each of his last three while connecting on 10 of his 24 3-point attempts against St. John’s, Louisville and Auburn.
McAndrew was a preseason third-team All-Big East selection, though he was averaging just 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 28.6% from 3 in 20.5 minutes per game in his first four games. Trying to play through a foot injury likely explains some of those struggles.
Jasen Green, who has been seeing most of his minutes at the three or the five so far this season, started the second half in McAndrew’s place at the four. The injury could result in a larger role for Isaac Traudt (38.4% from 3 in 15.8 minutes per game last year). Creighton also burned the intended redshirt for freshman Hudson Greer against North Dakota. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound freshman grabbed seven rebounds in his debut and saw minutes at both the three and the four during Creighton’s two exhibitions.
McAndrew joins walk-on forward Josh Townley-Thomas on the long-term injury list for Creighton, providing another test for the Bluejays’ frontcourt depth.
The Bluejays will head to Las Vegas for next week’s Players Era Men’s Championship without McAndrew in the lineup. Creighton opens the tournament against Baylor on Monday afternoon.
