Creighton men’s basketball escaped thanks to some heroics from Austin Swartz for the second team in three games as the Bluejays beat Xavier 94-93 at CHI Health Center Omaha Wednesday night.

Swartz rebounded his own missed free throw then banked in a shot with 0.6 to go to give the Jays the lead, then Xavier’s near dunk at the buzzer on a perfect full-court pass bounced off the rim and out to seal the victory.

Swartz, who lit Xavier up for 27 points in the team’s first meeting this season, was one of five Bluejays in double figures, finishing with 16 points. Josh Dix led the way with 19 points, Nik Graves nearly recorded a double-double with 16 points and a career-high nine assists and Fedor Žugić chipped in a season-high 11 points while going 3-for-3 from 3 in the second half.

Jasen Green scored 10 points in the first half before aggravating his shoulder injury and missing the second half.

The Bluejays improved to 12-8 overall and 6-3 in Big East play and will get five days off before traveling to Marquette for a Tuesday meeting.
