Jensen, Maly Named All-Big East for Creighton Women’s Basketball

No. 23 Creighton women’s basketball seniors Lauren Jensen and Morgan Maly were unanimous All-Big East first-team selections on Thursday when the conference announced its postseason awards.

The duo led the Bluejays (24-5) to a 16-2 league record and the No. 2 seed for the Big East Tournament.

Jensen, the 5-foot-10 guard from Lakeville, Minnesota, is fourth in the Big East in scoring, averaging 17.8 points on 45.5% from the field (38.1% from 3) and 90.9% from the free-throw line, 3.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists. She averaged 18.1 points in her 18 league games and has scored 20 or more 13 times this year with a pair of 30-point outings against Drake (32, tying her career high) and Nebraska (31). Jensen earned second-team All-Big East honors in 2021-22 before making the first team in each of her last three seasons.

Maly, the 6-foot-1 Crete High School prdouct, finished narrowly behind Jensen in scoring, averaging 17.5 points on 49.9% from the field including 43.9% from 3 (second in the conference) and 88.7% from the foul line plus 5.9 rebounds per game. She’s scored 20-plus nine times with a high of 29 (against Wyoming). This is her third straight first-team All-Big East nod after winning Big East Sixth Woman of the Year in 2021-22.

Jensen and Maly both surpassed 2,000 career points in Creighton’s regular-season finale against Villanova.

Molly Mogensen also received honorable mention All-Big East recognition as well as the Big East’s Co-Sportsmanship Award along with Georgetown’s Kelsey Ransom. The 5-foot-7 guard from Farmington, Minnesota, is third on the team in scoring at 9.6 per game on 45.9% form the field (38.9% from 3) and 86.5% from the stripe. She’s also second in rebounding (5.0 per game) and tied with Jensen for the team lead in assists (3.9 per game).

UConn’s Paige Bueckers and Sarah Strong won Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively. UConn’s Geno Auriemma is the Coach of the Year while the Huskies’ Ashlynn Shade is the Sixth Woman of the Year. St. John’s guard Lashae Dwyer is the Defensive Player of the Year and DePaul’s Jorie Allen is the league Most Improved Player.

Creighton will open Big East Tournament play against the winner of No. 7 Providence and No. 10 Georgetown on Saturday, with tipoff set for 6 p.m. CT.
