The Nebraska softball team advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals after run-ruling Southeastern Louisiana 8-0 in six innings on Sunday.
The Huskers’ 2025 Regional title is the ninth in program history as Nebraska is advancing to the Super Regionals for the first time since 2014.
Coach Rhonda Revelle said that the team’s hard work and dedication to winning helped the Huskers reach this point.
“We came together last July and it literally has been every single day,” Revelle told reporters. “You can get your adrenaline pumping and all the things that competitors do when it’s time to play, but there’s a little piece knowing that every day this team has invested themselves. It started with the weight room, jumping in the pool at 5:30 in the morning for their little swims and all that. We can just go on and on.”
Along with winning comes a lot of pride for those around the facility. The head coach said that she is excited for everyone around the program to have the chance to experience Super Regionals again.
“I’m thrilled for our players,” Revelle said. “I’m thrilled for the staff that hasn’t gotten to experience that. I’m thrilled for our fans. It gives them more time to celebrate Nebraska softball. I’m thrilled for our alumni.”
At the beginning of the season, the team went through some struggles, especially on the defensive side. Once the Huskers entered Big Ten play, they were able to turn things around, according to Revelle.
“I said, ‘How about we go from worst to first?’” she said. “I knew we were capable of being better, so we just got really dogged about what we do defensively.”
Pitcher Jordy Bahl had an incredible weekend, pitching 12 innings and allowing only two hits while reaching base every time she stepped up to the plate, scoring four home runs plus another hit and drawing seven walks. Revelle said she considers Bahl an inspiration to younger athletes along with those around her.
“A lot of athletes could learn so much from her,” Revelle said. “She immerses herself in the moment. She is not focused on numbers, accolades; she’s focused on one mission. It’s doing whatever she can to help the team win.”
Although Bahl has made it to a Super Regional before, many of her teammates have not. This includes teammate Samantha Bland, who said that she is looking forward to playing in the Super regionals.
“This feeling is just surreal,” Bland told reporters. “I’m so excited for what’s coming next.”
Nebraska is headed to Knoxville, Tennessee, to face seventh-ranked Tennessee. The teams will play a best-of-three series from which the winner will advance to Oklahoma City.
The Huskers may have reached the Super Regionals for the first time in over a decade, but they aren’t satisfied. They head to Knoxville with high aspirations.
“On our journey, we have one goal,” Bahl told reporters. “It’s not to make it to Regionals, or make it to Supers, or make it to the World Series. It’s to win the World Series.”
