Bellevue West senior Josiah Dotzler was announced as the 2022-23 Nebraska Boys Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year on Wednesday.
“I am so blessed and honored to receive this award. I want to first off thank God for giving me the ability to play the game I love. I also want to thank my parents for pushing to be better everyday and paying for all the games and camps I was apart of,” Dotzler said of receiving the award. “Lastly I want to thank my coaches and teammates for always believing in me and pushing me in practices. There are so many people who have helped me get to where I am today and I am so honored to have all of them in my life because they are the reason I am able to receive an award like this.”
The Creighton signee averaged 16.5. points, five assists, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game while leading the T-Birds to an undefeated (29-0) season and the Class A state championship.
Dotzler joins recent Gatorade Nebraska Boys Basketball Players of the Year Isaac Traudt (2021-22, Grand Island Senior High School), Hunter Sallis (2020-21, Millard North High School), Chucky Hepburn (2019-20, Bellevue West High School), and Akol Arop (2018-19, Creighton Prep), among the state’s list of former award winners.
