Meet The Hosts

Ravi Lulla

Since 2014, Ravi Lulla has been covering sports through radio and podcasts in Omaha and Lincoln. In his time on the air Ravi has covered Nebraska, Creighton, the College World Series and more. Ravi previously had a daily sports talk show in Lincoln. His experience also includes serving as a color commentator for Creighton Men’s Basketball radio broadcasts. Ravi has additional experience in sports as a writer for Bleacher Report and as a college basketball coach for nine years. Prior to this, Ravi played the lowest form of college basketball known to mankind, which is where he learned to blend his love for sports with a healthy sense of humor.

Damon Benning

Four-year letter winner and former Husker running back Damon Benning knows the ins and outs of the game. As a 1996 Orange Bowl MVP, 2-time National Champion and featured player on the Big Ten Network, Benning has a unique perspective on sports. After hanging up his jersey, the former athlete has continued to make a name for himself in local sports radio for over 15 years. Nebraska’s newest color analyst shares his signature commentary as a co-host on Hail Varsity Radio and local football broadcaster.

Chris Schmidt

Lincoln, Nebraska, native Chris Schmidt found his love for football at a young age when his family cheered the Huskers to victory. Joined by photographer Aaron Babcock and former coach Mike Babcock, Chris started his sports media journey in 2008. Now, he works as a host for Hail Varsity Radio and KFOR Radio. In 2021, he was awarded the NSMA Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year Award. After interviewing coaches and players, “Schmidty” loves returning home to partner Erin and their son, Carson.

Elijah Herbel

Elijah Herbel produces and co-hosts the Hail Varsity Radio show for Hurrdat Media. He was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School before attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to major in Broadcasting and Advertising/Public Relations. In 2021, he received his Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Nebraska. Elijah grew up listening to sports talk radio with his dad and began working in the radio industry in 2018 when Chris Schmidt hired him as a part-time producer for the Hail Varsity Radio show. After graduating from UNL, Elijah was promoted to full-time producer and co-host of the show. In his free time, Elijah enjoys umpiring high school baseball, bowling, grilling and watching sports with his roommates.

Shane Schillerberg

Shane Schillerberg is a veteran radio producer and DJ, best known for his work on Coffee & Cream with Andrew Rogers and Damon Benning. Shane also produces the Benning Bites, Morning Dump, Sports Six Pack, and Nebraska Preps Postgame podcasts. He was once known to Omaha radio listeners as “Shane the Sport Sack,” though he now goes by “Liquid Shane-O” or “Two Shanes.” In his free time, Shane enjoys hanging out with his family, friends, and girlfriend, watching his teams play, listening to the radio, and playing golf.
