Isaiah Grant, a 2028 four-star wide receiver from Sioux City (Ia.) East, landed an offer from Nebraska football on Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder has been on the Huskers’ radar for some time as he previously visited last November and had been in touch with the staff this summer, but the offer wasn’t necessarily expected.
“I was super surprised,” he told Hail Varsity. “We try not to expect anything when we go on these visits, I was just thankful and surprised.”
Grant and his family met with Matt Rhule in the minutes leading up to Saturday’s season opener at midfield, which he described as a “pretty cool moment.” He spent a “long time” with wide receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. after Nebraska’s 49-21 win over Ohio.
“He said he likes my size obviously, my frame,” the four-star said of his conversation with Shorts. “How I can get in and out of breaks for how big I am and how I can make contested high point catches.”
Grant kept a close eye on Kwazi Gilmer and Nyziah Hunter on Saturday but also took note of Nebraska’s rotation out wide and how Shorts challenged his room in pregame warm-ups.
“I like that he plays the guys that do their job and are consistent,” he said. “He’s not scared to play younger guys and he’s just a young coach [himself].”
Grant had the chance to connect with 2027 Nebraska five-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor and his family in brief moments through his two trips to Lincoln thus far. The opportunity to catch passes from the five-star is intriguing, but it’s what he’s learned, along with what he himself has felt around Nebraska’s program that has resonated with Grant.
“There’s a lot of relationships here,” he said of Taylor and his family’s message. “It’s all about the bond and relationships here; it’s bigger than football. I felt that when I was there. It felt like when I was talking to the coaches it didn’t even feel like I was talking to a coach, just felt like I was talking to a normal dude.”
Grant has felt a consistent “energy” at Nebraska through two visits. With an offer in hand, the Huskers are emerging as a real contender for the four-star.
“I would say they’re a good contender,” he said. “That was a really good visit that we went on yesterday, definitely opened up our eyes towards considering them more.”
Grant has at least five other programs he’s planning to visit this fall: Kansas, Iowa, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Penn State and possibly Oregon. Now firmly on Nebraska’s board, the four-star is eying a return to Lincoln later this season as well.
“We’re thinking about coming back for the Halloween game,” he said.
