Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North three-star linebacker Caleb Green was back in Lincoln on Saturday for his first game since committing to Nebraska football in June.
“It was definitely good, the atmosphere was great,” Green told Hail Varsity. “It was a good game. It was good to see everybody.”
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker has taken in games in Memorial Stadium in the past. Returning as a commit, surrounded by fellow commits like five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor, four-star defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati, three-star wide receiver Justyn Lindsay and three-star offensive tackle Matt Erickson, made for a different experience.
“We talk every now and then,” he said of Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class. “Yesterday we talked a lot; we’re all pretty close. Feels like home already; we’re very excited.”
Green is a Missouri legacy and was previously committed to the Tigers. In June, he camped at Nebraska, despite being committed elsewhere, and earned a long-awaited offer from the Huskers. A week later, Green made an official visit to Nebraska and flipped his commitment.
“Staff felt more genuine, like they cared about me more,” he said. “They showed they wanted me more, showed how they could use me and ultimately it just felt more like home.”
Assistant head coach Jamar Mozee, who was previously the head coach at Lee’s Summit North, played a key role in Green’s decision. The relationship between Mozee and Green’s family is one reason he felt comfortable in flipping away from Missouri, where his older brother, Cayden, is currently a star offensive tackle.
“I think maybe second or third grade, I started doing workouts with him and some of my teammates,” Green said. “We’ve been working out with him since forever and then we got to high school and he was our coach for a year. He’s definitely like an uncle to me.”
Green kept a close eye on Nebraska’s defense, particularly the linebacker room. He’s developed relationships with several current members of the room and liked what he saw in Saturday’s dominant win.
“They played fast, they played physical,” he said. “They had one spot where they got scored on but that was really it, it was still good.”
Green had the chance to reconnect with linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek in person on Saturday. They’ve been in contact for some time but the relationship developed “a lot” over the summer.
“We talk just about every week,” he said. “He calls me or texts me and checks in on me, it’s definitely developed a lot.”
Since committing, Green has developed relationships all over the staff. He talked to “everybody” while back in town on Saturday and is buzzing with excitement over his future in Lincoln.
