Nebraska football’s 2027 quarterback commit, Trae Taylor, is excited to play for the Big Red, and he shared why recently on Hurrdat Sports Live.

Taylor hails from Mundelein, Illinois, where he is considered a four-star quarterback in the 2027 class. During his sophomore campaign at Carmel Catholic High School, he passed for 3,061 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 437 yards and five more touchdowns.

Although Taylor still has two more years until he will suit up for the Huskers, he is already helping recruit prospects to join him in Lincoln. He said that he planned on doing this no matter where he went, but he credits the staff and place itself for keeping him motivated to peer recruit aggressively.

“How nice Nebraska is and just the coaching staff and facilities, it makes it 10 times easier to recruit there,” Taylor told Damon Benning and Ravi Lulla.

Self-awareness is an important aspect to have and understand when playing sports. With fans constantly watching and the pressure that comes with being an athlete, Taylor said that he tries to meet the goals that he sets for himself right now in high school and then in a few years when he gets to college.

“For the high school part, I’ve got everybody watching me, and that’s as simple as it is,” Taylor said. “You can’t expect to be a leader and not have everybody watching you. So I think that’s the biggest part. And then thinking ahead to college football, I got, again, everybody watching me, and there’s even bigger standards there. It’s not living up to the standards, it’s living up to my standards.”

Taylor said that when he talks to other prospects about factors that helped him make the decision to come to Nebraska and reasons why they should be a Husker too, he starts with Coach Matt Rhule and how he helps the players grow and evolve in the program.

“Coach Rhule is going to be the realest coach that you’re going to get,” Taylor said. “He’s going to tell it to you straight to your face, whether you like it or not.”

Rhule often uses the saying pressure is a privilege, which is true for most athletes with fans constantly watching. However, Taylor said that he does not necessarily see it this way, rather he thinks that if you enjoy what you’re doing, there isn’t always pressure.

“I think pressure is more of something people put on themselves,” Taylor said. “You shouldn’t have pressure if you love what you’re doing.”

Recently, Taylor visited Memorial stadium to participate in the program’s first ever the Battle at the Boneyard seven-on-seven football camp. Taylor competed in the camp’s tournament with Miami Raw, quarterbacking the team to the championship.

Taylor said that this style of football is different because there’s no offensive or defensive line, but that it can help prepare them for games on Fridays and Saturdays with the different aspects it includes.

“It moves faster too, because they don’t need to play the run game, they’re just flying to their spots,” Taylor said.

While he’s still a couple years away from officially becoming a Husker, Taylor is firm in his commitment and is doing his part to recruit others to join him in Lincoln. Fans can expect to continue seeing the 2027 commit trumpeting the program on social media until he arrives on campus.
