On Thursday’s Hurrdat Sports Live show, Damon Benning posed the question of if any other current Big Ten quarterback is in a better situation than Dylan Raiola.

Show guest and senior writer at Husker 247 Michael Bruntz said he would take Raiola over any other QB in the conference.

“I think he’s a lot more talented than he showed last year,” Bruntz told Hurrdat Sports Live. “I think there’s more of a ceiling there, especially on the deep ball stuff.

“If you just go back and think of the number of throws that I think he’ll probably make this year, that he didn’t make last year… I think that’s the reason why, in my mind, there’s so much between where he’s at in the ceiling versus other guys.”

With the first full season upcoming with offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, Bruntz believes Raiola can only improve.

“I think there’s arm talent and just kind of an intangible thing that we just have not seen from him yet,” Bruntz said. “From the little glimpses we got to see of him in spring ball, he was a guy who seemed a lot more comfortable and confident than what I remember him being last year.”

Last fall, Raiola passed for 2,819 yards and 13 touchdowns, setting a number of true freshman school records.

This included the best completion percentage for a freshman in program history at 67.1 and the most passing yards for a true freshman.

Raiola and the Huskers open the season at Arrowhead Stadium on Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. against Cincinnati.
