No. 1 Nebraska volleyball out-dueled an up-tempo Indiana squad at a sold-out Wilkinson Hall, sweeping the 15th-ranked Hoosiers on Thursday night.
The Huskers topped the Hoosiers 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 to improve to 16-0 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play heading into Saturday’s top-10 showdown against Wisconsin.
“Obviously, it was great win on the road against a ranked team with a big game waiting on Saturday,” Coach Dani Busboom Kelly said on the Huskers Radio Network. “I thought we handled everything really well, and we played well. Indiana gave us everything they had, and I thought we did great.”
The outside hitters led the way for Nebraska as Harper Murray tallied a match-high 11 kills on .364 hitting, seven digs, two blocks and an ace. Teraya Sigler added 10 kills on .389 hitting, five digs and two blocks.
Sigler gave credit to Bergen Reilly for her performance as the senior setter racked up 35 assists, seven digs and three kills (on three attacks) while setting Nebraska to a .379 hitting percentage.
Communication is “crucial, obviously, in these environments where it’s so loud,” Sigler said on Big Ten Network. “She’s just an incredible setter, open to everything, so getting where I need to be and where she needs to be is just the most crucial part, going back to fundamentals. She does such a good job of communicating and knowing when things are open, where to go, putting me in the right position. All kudos to her.”
Andi Jackson added 9 kills on .471 hitting while Manaia Ogbechie chipped in eight kills on .500 hitting and six blocks, double the total of the next-highest blocker.
Olivia Mauch led the defensive effort with 10 digs, six assists and three aces as Nebraska tallied five aces with just three errors. Indiana committed 13 errors and only managed two aces. However, the fast-paced Hoosiers hit .282, a season-high for a Nebraska opponent by a healthy margin.
“We work on it a lot, of course — prep it, try to get our blockers in a fast rhythm; it’s just really tough,” Busboom Kelly said on Big Ten Network. “You don’t really understand how fast it is until you see it live, and that’s why you hope as the game goes on that your blockers get better and better.”
First Set
Nebraska got off to a fast start against one of the fastest teams in the Big Ten, terminating on eight of its first nine swings to jump out to an 8-2 lead. The Hoosiers took a timeout to regroup and managed to trim the deficit to four a few times, but the Huskers responded with a 7-2 run to stretch the lead out to nine at 19-10.
Indiana put together a 3-0 spurt late, including its first two blocks of the match, but Nebraska responded with its own 3-0 run to end the set as Virginia Adriana and Ogbechie teamed up for an emphatic stuff block on set point.
Sigler led the way with five kills on six attacks as Nebraska hit .375. The Hoosiers tallied seven service errors and only managed one ace while hitting .179.
Second Set
Indiana struck first in set two, but the Huskers responded with a 5-0 run including an ace from Mauch and a pair of kills from Adriano.
The Huskers extended the lead out to six midway through the set at 12-6 then kept the Hoosiers at a comfortable distance the rest of the way despite Indiana finding more success offensively. The set ended with 10 straight sideouts as Murray capitalized on Nebraska’s second set-point opportunity with a back-row kill.
The Hoosiers hit .333, but Nebraska countered with a .400 clip and earned a five-kill edge as Murray and Jackson tallied five kills apiece on a combined 16 errorless swings.
Third Set
Indiana took an early lead in set three, but the Huskers rode a 5-0 run ending in a Murray ace to take an 8-4 lead. The Hoosiers fought back, using their own 4-0 run to surge ahead at 12-10.
Ogbechie took a couple big rips to stabilize the Huskers before three more ties followed, the last at 15-all. However, Nebraska used four straight kills — including two from Murray, the second on a rally in which she had to spring back into the bench area to keep a ball alive before getting back in position for a back-row attack.

The teams traded sideouts for a few rallies before Busboom Kelly sent Kenna Cogill in for Adriano, pushing Ogbechie to the right side. There were a few miscues with Ogbechie bumping into Reilly then misfiring on an attack at the pin, but the Huskers ended the match with a 3-0 run including back-to-back blocks featuring Ogbechie and Cogill teaming up to stuff Indiana’s star outside hitter, Jaidyn Jager.
“We put Kenna in Virginia’s spot to move Manaia to the right, more for blocking than offense, and it worked,” Busboom Kelly said. “So that was cool to see Manaia get two stuffs there on the right.”
Both sides terminated at a high clip in the third, with Nebraska at .379 and Indiana at .333. The Huskers benefitted from a 7-1 edge in service points with three aces and four more Indiana attack errors. Murray led the way with five kills while Ogbechie added four.
Up Next
With a three-match road stint complete, the Huskers — the last remaining unbeaten team in Division I following No. 2 Pittsburgh’s loss to No. 6 SMU on Wednesday — will return home to host No. 7 Wisconsin on Saturday night.
“They’re very, very good, and it’s a team that is continuing to change and find their identity,” Busboom Kelly said. “So teams like that are always scary to play because you know it’s going to click, and when it does, it’s going to be scary.”
First serve is set for 6 p.m. CT on FOX with Kelsie Kasper, Emily Ehman and Anna Connelly on the call.
