Nebraska athletics announced today that longtime Nebraska football and baseball broadcaster Greg Sharpe passed away after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sharpe, 61, first began his play-by-play work with Nebraska football in 2007 and took over the duties in 2008. Sharpe called Husker football for the next 17 seasons and also began calling baseball in 2008.
“Over the last 12 months, Greg has fought a very public battle with pancreatic cancer,” the Sharpe family said in a statement. “Even though it was a grim diagnosis at the time, Greg chose to live and not to fear.
He leaned into his faith, family and of course his professional calling of broadcasting Husker athletics. Without the support from the University of Nebraska, Playfly Sports and of course the best fans in college athletics, Husker Nation, he may not have been able to continue to fight and live the way that he did.”
Sharpe was recently the recipient of the 2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year award.
Sharpe is survived by his wife Amy and his three daughters Emily, Campbell and Taylor.Information on the arrangements is forthcoming.
