Trae Taylor, Nebraska football’s 2027 quarterback commit, is moving to Lincoln and transferring to play his senior season at Millard South.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback is transferring from Carmel Catholic in Mundelein, Illinois. Taylor is a 4-star recruit ranked 55th nationally in the 247Sports Composite, and he’s the fourth-ranked quarterback prospect.
Sources confirmed to Hurrdat Sports that the transfer is in the works, and Taylor shared his reasoning on social media:
“This decision was not taken lightly. I’ll be living in Lincoln commuting to Omaha. So any chance I’m allowed in the facilities I’ll be there. Kinda a redshirt year at a slower pace. 2) I don’t want to miss a single recruit that comes in. None of this is possible without my Coach [Jason McKie] and his support, and him giving me the green light to go be great nothing but love. And of course my [Corsairs football] teammates my progress was faster because of you. Thank you Corsairs community.”
Taylor completed 81.7% of his passes for 3,571 yards and 38 touchdowns with only three interceptions this past season. He also ran the ball 77 times for 633 yards and another 12 touchdowns. He led Carmel to an 8-3 record and a second-round appearance in the Class 7A state tournament in Illinois. As a sophomore, Taylor completed 67.7% of his passes for 3,061 yards and 20 touchdowns with seven interceptions while adding 342 yards and another four scores on 41 runs.
Taylor has spoken extensively about his close relationship with Coach Matt Rhule, he’s been a vocal peer recruiter on social media and he’s made many visits to Lincoln for game days and others’ recruiting visits. Taylor also joined Hurrdat Sports Live in November and spoke on his connection with the Nebraska fan base and the support he’s received from Husker fans.
“It’s beyond crazy, and literally the worst part about it is all I can say is ‘thank you,’ right?” Taylor said. “I feel like the Nebraska fan base and just in general, Lincoln and Nebraska — I shut down my recruitment, so there’s no reason for me not to fully jump in.”
Millard South won the Class A state championship in November, finishing the season 11-1 in dominating fashion with the lone loss a forfeit for playing an ineligible player. Senior quarterback and Alabama commit Jett Thomalla led the Patriots, capping a record-setting career with a prolific senior season.
With Taylor headlining the group, Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class — currently including six commits — ranks sixth nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings. With Taylor moving to Nebraska, half of the class will be made up of in-state recruits as he joins four-star safety Tory Pittman III and three-star offensive tackle Matt Erickson.
