Jase Reynolds is officially a Nebraska football player after signing with the program on the first day of the early signing period Wednesday.

The senior outside linebacker from Elkhorn North is Nebraska’s lone in-state commit for the 2026 class after committing to the program on May 5. He’s one of 10 Huskers set to join the team next season as part of a signing class headlined by five-star corner Danny Odom.

“It’s a surreal feeling just to finally put the pen to paper and being able to get the accomplishment of signing,” Reynolds told Hail Varsity. “It’s a very good feeling.”

Reynolds is a consensus three-star recruit, ranking just outside the top 100 at his position by multiple outlets.

Head coach Matt Rhule said that Reynolds camped at Nebraska, with the team extending an offer right away.

“Jase was someone who just stood out to us,” Rhule said Wednesday afternoon. “He was fast, he’s athletic. At the end of the day, when we go to recruit somebody, we have to say to ourselves, ‘Hey, can we beat Ohio State with this person? Can we beat Michigan with this person?’ So, Jase was a guy that when we looked at his height, weight, speed, and all that, that we felt convicted on that he would.”

During his senior campaign, Reynolds played in 11 games and totaled 54 tackles including 8.0 for loss, 4.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defensed, and he also returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns. On offense, he added 31 receptions for 256 yards and a touchdown along with 11 carries for 129 yards and another score. Reynolds led the Wolves the eight wins and the Class B state quarterfinals, though an injury to starting quarterback Ethan Beachy cut Elkhorn North’s run short.

With the firing of defensive coordinator John Butler on Monday, Nebraska is undergoing some defensive changes. However, that hasn’t changed anything for Reynolds, who has his eye on the future.

“Seeing Coach Butler leave, obviously it was disappointing, but it’s part of the sport, and I was able to build a good relationship with him,” Reynolds said. “So it kind of sucked, but I trust in who Coach Rhule’s going to bring in next. I trust in his process, with that, so really the only thing we can do, is just get back to work.”

The multi-sport athlete will be playing as a linebacker when he joins the Huskers, but he has been in close contact with the coaches throughout the process including linebackers coach Rob Dvorocek, who is in his third year on the staff.

“He was there when they offered me, and he’s been there every step of the way with me,” Reynolds said. “Just his ability to build a relationship with not just me, but my family and really everyone that’s close to me. He’s a very personal person, and built a very strong relationship with me, so I can’t wait to get down there and play for him.”

While many football players choose to enroll early to go through spring ball, Reynolds will finish his high school career playing basketball for the Wolves before heading down to Lincoln next summer.

“I’ve been playing basketball with some of these kids for my whole life, and we have a chance of going all the way this year, so I couldn’t hang them out to dry,” Reynolds said. “So we’re going to get it done.”
