Millard South Football Names Mendenhall Head Coach

The Millard South football coaching search has come to an end. Friday, the school announced Taylor Mendenhall is the school’s next head coach.

Mendenhall was the quarterbacks coach for the 2024 Class A state champion Patriots.

With Mendenhall, the Patriots stayed within the program following former coach Ty Wisdom resignation in December.

“I am extremely humbled and excited to get the opportunity to lead this extraordinary group of young men and lead this program that means so much to me and my family,” Mendenhall said. “I want to thank the Lord for blessing me and my wife for all the support she provides. We can’t wait to get back to work and continue the historic success for Millard South Football.”

The Patriots will once again be one of the Class A favorites in 2025 and Mendenhall has nearly a decade of coaching experience. Over his tenure, he has also coached tight ends and safeties and coordinated special teams while leading the Millard South junior varsity team to three consecutive undefeated seasons.

Before his time at Millard South, Mendenhall coached the defensive line at Kearney High School and Adams Central High School.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, he is currently a Business teacher at Millard South High School.

Millard South High School proudly welcomes Coach Taylor Mendenhall as the next Head Football Coach. “Coach Mendenhall brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience from across the state, and we are thrilled to have one of our own take the reins of the historic Patriot Football Program,” Millard South Athletic Director Steve Throne said.

Mendenhall, a 2013 graduate of Millard South, was a three-sport athlete in high school and continued his football career at Hastings College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Teaching.

Taylor and his wife, Tatum, have twin sons – Benjamin and Barrett.
