Twelve teams punched their ticket to the Bob Devaney Sports Center and the 2025 NSAA State Volleyball Championship finals on semifinal Friday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

All six classes produced spectacular performances and some historic moments. Here are some of the best performances we saw.

CLASS D2

The Wynot Wieseler

The top seed in Class D2 dropped its first set against No. 4 Dundy County Stratton but rebounded to win in four, including a dominant win in set three and a deuce victory to close it out.

Senior setter Haley Wieseler did a bit of everything for the Blue Devils, finishing with 30 assists, 15 digs, eight kills on .304 hitting and five blocks. Her top target was fellow senior Kenna Oligmueller, who notched her own double-double with 16 kills and 17 digs.

Trojan Tiple-Doubles

Third-seeded Cambridge dropped the first set but won the last three to earn its ticket to face Wynot in the championship as a pair of upperclassmen stuffed the stat sheet.

Senior Mallory Springer racked up 28 assists, 23 digs, 12 kills on .220 hitting and six aces. Junior Brooklyn Holtze totaled 29 kills on .243 hitting, 19 assists and 14 digs while accounting for nine of the team’s 16 kills in the decisive fourth set.

The triple-double effort from Cambridge’s leaders was enough to overcome 33 kills in four sets from S-E-M star Taryn Arbuthnot. The senior hit .262 while adding 14 digs and three blocks to her line.

The Trojans will take on No. 1 Wynot in Saturday’s final, set for 9 a.m.

CLASS D1

Big Bronco Block

The top seed in Class D1, the Amherst Broncos, advanced with a 3-1 win over No. 4 EMF thanks in large part to the blocking efforts from a 6-foot-1 freshman.

Brooke Bosshamer tallied 11 stuffs (including one solo) in the four-set victory while contributing seven kills on offense. The freshman had a hand in every Amherst block but one. Offensively, junior Sadie Van Ranken led the way with 15 kills on .317 hitting.

EMF senior Kaydence Haase went off for 28 kills, 20 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces, but it wasn’t enough to earn a trip to the championship.

Overton Outlasts Shelton

The 11 a.m. slot produced the first five-setter of the day as the Eagles punched their ticket to the final in their first season at the D1 level.

Senior libero Chloe Svarvari coordinated the defense with 42 digs, two aces and even two kills. Junior setter Kyla Elfgren ran the offense with 56 assists, 17 digs, three blocks and two kills. Senior Daisy Ryan was on the receiving end of many of Elfgren’s assists, finishing with 25 kills on .243 hitting, 23 digs and three blocks.

Ryan scored eight of her kills — the last on match point — in the fifth set as Overton survived 21-19.

Shelton gave the second-seeded Eagles everything they could handle, largely because senior middle Erin Gegg went off for 33 kills on .253 hitting, 17 digs and three blocks.

The top two seeds will face off in Saturday’s final, set for 11 a.m.

CLASS C2

Balance Prevails for Freeman

Fourth-seeded Freeman made short work of the upstart Yutan, winning a tough first set than rolling through games two and three.

Sophomore Aniston Bartunek set a beautiful game as the Falcons hit .312 and had five players finish with nine or more kills. Bartunek totaled 39 assists, 11 digs, two kills and an ace.

Sophomore Adison Otto led the attack with 12 kills on .524 hitting, four digs and two aces. Freshmen Brecken Albers Dorn and Brenna Harms tallied 10 kills apiece, with Harms delivering the match-point kill.

Bears Make More History

In Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s first trip to state, the Bears have earned their way to the Devaney Center as a No. 6 seed, sweeping No. 7 Oakland-Craig with two deuce games sandwiching a seven-point win that wasn’t that close.

Junior Rena Rasmussen and senior Tyler Recob shouldered the load for L-C-C. Rasmussen led the way with 15 kills on .286 hitting and 13 digs while Recob added 11 kills on .375 hitting, 15 digs and two aces. Recob had seven kills in the third set and served up an ace on match point.

Briar Ray, the Oakland-Craig senior who led everyone in the quarterfinal round with 39 kills, finished with 22 terminations, 13 digs, two blocks and an ace for the Knights.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge will take on No. 4 Freman for the Class C1 crown on Saturday at 1 p.m.

CLASS C1

Cinderella Story Continues

Holdrege qualified for state for the first time since 2007 and did so as a No. 8 seed. On Saturday, they’ll look to capture their first state championship after getting past No. 4 Omaha Concordia in five sets.

None of the sets were close, with each team winning by six or more, but the fifth set turned into the biggest blowout of the night as the Dusters ran past the Mustangs 15-5 despite only notching two kills. Concordia committed 10 attack errors in the finale frame while Holdrege only recorded one.

Holdrege’s best weapon was senior middle blocker Gracie Johnson who finished with 14 kills on .448 hitting, four blocks, four digs and two aces.

Junior outside hitter Breckynn Snyder carried the load for Concordia, finishing with 21 kills, 22 digs, two blocks and an ace in the loss.

Serving Separation

On a day when Milford’s star sophomore wasn’t hitting at her normal rate, the Eagles dominated at the service line to make up for their offensive struggles in a sweep over sixth-seeded Malcolm.

Shayla Rautenberg posted a match-high 15 kills but hit only .154 as Milford finished at .182 as a team. However, the Eagles made up the slack with nine aces (to Malcolm’s two) and only committed six errors (to Malcolm’s nine). That’s a 10-point edge from the line, with sophomore Braelynn Muller serving four aces and senior setter Kylie Jakub adding three (to go with her 26 assists, 13 digs and four kills).

Halle and Payton Dolliver combined for 26 kills and 23 digs for the Clippers.

Milford will take on No. 8 Holdrege in Saturday’s final, set for 3 p.m.

CLASS B

Whole Lotta Kills for Kaelynn

A career match from TCU commit Kaelynn Lottman led the reigning champions back to the title game as Norris completed the season-sweep of EMC rival Waverly in four sets.

The 5-foot-8 junior finished with a career-high 22 kills on .273 hitting, topping her previous best by five kills. She only had six career matches with double-digit kills heading into Friday before reaching that point against the Vikings early in the third set, and she was only getting started. Norris closed the fourth set with a 5-0 run featuring three kills from Lottman, including one on match point on a set far off the net.

Junior Malorie Boesiger recognized the hot hand and fed Lottman over and over again. The Nebraska commit finished with 52 assists, nine digs, three kills and a block to earn an opportunity to play in her future home.

For Waverly, Hallie and Gracie Lauenstein combined for 32 kills and 28 digs.

Record-Setting Reagan

The final match of the night turned into an instant classic and lived up to every bit of hype that surrounded it heading in with two of the most prolific pin-hitters in the state.

The second-seeded Wolves took down the No. 3 SkyHawks in five sets to snap Skutt’s streak of championship appearances at 11. The story of the day — and of the tournament through three days — was junior Reagan Wallraff and what she did.

The Creighton commit broke the Class B record for kills in a match, finishing with 42 on .284 hitting to best the previous record of 38 by Beatrice’s Marriah Buss, set in 2016. She now holds the Class B record for kills in a season, kills in a match and kills-per-match average. She took 102 swings in total add added 15 digs to her stat line for the double-double.

Wallraff hit .000 in the first set with four kills and four errors as Skutt took the first set. The bounce-back ins et two was as impressive as anything I saw at Pinnacle Bank Arena as she recorded 31 attacks and terminated 14 times, hitting .387 in the frame.

Skutt won the third set, but Wallraff took over the rest of the way with nine kills on 12 swings in game four and seven kills on 14 attacks in game five.

Reagan’s younger sister Reese, the team’s libero, recorded a match-high 28 digs, seven assists and an ace as Elkhorn North held Skutt to .173 hitting.

Addison West, a North Carolina commit, went down swinging for the SkyHawks, totaling 20 kills on .380 hitting, 14 digs and three blocks. The program’s career kills leader only misfired one time in her final match as a SkyHawk.

Elkhorn North will take on conference rival and top-seeded Norris in the Class B championship on Saturday, set for 5 p.m.

CLASS A

Lincoln North Star Navigates Reverse Sweep

Fourth-seeded Omaha Westside had the No. 1 seed on the ropes with three match-point opportunities in set three. However, the Gators escaped the third, dominated the fourth and won the last two rallies in game five to earn the deuce win and complete the reverse sweep.

A group of juniors led the way for North Star. Delainey Volkmer led the team with 18 kills, seven digs and an ace. Her most important kill of the night came on Westside’s second match-point opportunity. Middle blocker Lauren McKernan was the most efficient Gator on Friday, recording 15 kills on .444 hitting plus three blocks and an ace. Elsie Schmidt added 12 kills (including set point in game three and the penultimate rally of game five to set up match point), 10 digs, two blocks and an ace.

Finally, setter Alex Kroll racked up 44 assists, 27 digs, two kills and an ace to lead North Star to the championship match.

Southern Struggle

Papillion-La Vista South escaped in the first set then controlled the action in games two and three to sweep Millard South and advance to the final.

The Titans trailed 24-22 in the first set before scoring the final four points to steal the game then carried that momentum into game two, racing out to a 17-5 lead before cruising to an eight-point win. Papio South jumped out to a 6-1 lead in game three as well en route to the sweep.

Junior Lyric Judson, who recently committed to Florida Gulf Coast, led the Titans with 13 kills on .375 hitting, five digs and five blocks. She was responsible for the kill that sparked the finish in game one then teamed up with senior Kam Bails for a block on set point.

Senior libero Kami Dyrstad, a Rutgers commit, notched 26 digs as Papio South held the Patriots to .046 hitting for the match.

The Titans will look to capture their second straight title in Saturday’s night cap against No. 1 Lincoln North Star.
