Today on Hurrdat Sports Radio, hosts Ravi Lulla and Damon Benning continue their analysis of Nebraska football’s performance, their coaching strategies and player execution against Ohio State. They highlight key areas for improvement while staying positive on the team’s potential moving forward.

Ohio State Game Takeaways

Nebraska’s surprisingly strong performance against Ohio State caught many fans off guard. In what was expected to be a difficult game going into Columbus, the Huskers managed to hold their own. Benning emphasizes the defensive stand Nebraska made early on, stating that it set the tone for the rest of the game. He praises the defense for stepping up and controlling the game, especially after an initial scare that came within the first few minutes of the game.

Benning also points out the inconsistency in the fanbase’s expectations, pointing out that many people were quick to write off the team before the game, only to shift their narrative once Nebraska showed resilience. He encourages fans to stay consistent and acknowledge the team’s growth throughout the season.

Quarterback Dylan Raiola’s Performance

Dylan Raiola’s running ability was brought up from the Ohio State game with Benning admitting that even though he has watched Raiola more than anyone else, he has never seen the quarterback break out into such a long run. Lulla and Benning were caught by surprise at Raiola’s 40-yard run, which showcases his athleticism and ability to adapt during high-pressure moments.

Offensive Coordinator Satterfield Under Fire

One key issue that continues to be raised is the criticism directed at Nebraska’s offensive coordinator, Marcus Satterfield. Benning defends Satterfield, stating that while the execution wasn’t always perfect, the plays were there for the taking. Lulla agrees with the statement, explaining that Satterfield’s dry humor and calm demeanor may not resonate with everyone, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a competent coach.

Benning and Lulla point out that context matters when evaluating a coach’s performance, and Nebraska fans need to consider the bigger picture before rushing to judgment.

Moving Forward

As Nebraska moves into the final stretch of the season, Benning and Lulla agree that the team needs to continue building on their recent performance. Benning emphasizes the importance of learning from both successes and failures, encouraging the team to focus on improving execution in key areas. There is an importance of building a culture and program where players take ownership of their roles, citing Dylan Raiola’s maturity in defending his coach during a press conference as a prime example.

Looking ahead, Nebraska faces tough matchups, but both Benning and Lulla remain optimistic. They believe that if the team continues to play with the same intensity and discipline seen in the Ohio State game, they have the potential to finish the season strong.
