Omaha North’s Terry Commits To Nebraska

by Jun 9, 2023Preps Football, Recruiting

Omaha North’s Tyson Terry has committed to Nebraska. The class of 2025 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman announced his commitment to NU Thursday.

“I felt like since the first time I met the coaches, it was that fire,” Terry said of the NU staff. “That connection is a connection that I haven’t felt with any other staff or college that recruited me. That home feeling has never been with me and Nebraska. With this new staff, it felt like home from the jump.”

Terry took an unofficial visit to Lincoln on Wednesday, meeting with coaches, particularly defensive line coach Terrance Knighton.

“I feel valued by every single coach in the building,” Terry said. “I want to work, and I have big dreams, I feel like Coach Rhule can push me to achieve those dreams. I want to play in the NFL, with Coach Knighton. He has been there and has done that for years in the NFL. So, what is better than having a guy who can teach and coach me that has been there and done that?”

Terry, a two-time state champion heavyweight wrestler, will start his career on the defensive line. He chose Nebraska over previous offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota and Vanderbilt. A few of those schools wanted Terry to play on the interior offensive line.

Competitive, winning is the priority for Terry.

I believe Coach Rhule will turn this program around, and I know he wants to win,” he said. “I want to win as well. I know the coaching staff is hungry to win championships. I want to win those championships with them.”

Family is important to Terry and his family seeing him play collegiately and the support from the local fan base is something that weighed heavily on his decision.

“I come from a huge football family, so staying close to home means something to me,” he said. “I know that my family will be there at every game. The atmosphere in Memorial Stadium is unreal. The fan base behind Nebraska is amazing, is they are winning or losing program they will always be there with sold-out for the games.”
