CJ Jones had an eventful weekend in the Kansas City area.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound sophomore participated in the Kansas Relays Friday and Saturday for Omaha Westside running the 100-meter dash, 4×100 relay and throwing the shot put.
Saturday after the shot put events ended he made his way to Kansas State for an unofficial visit with the Wildcat football program. The result of that visit, an offer from K-State, the 11th (Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Southern California, Wisconsin) Power Conference offer for the four-star 2025 linebacker.
“I haven’t been there before,” Jones said of K-State. “I was really impressed with the facilities, the strength and conditioning program really impressed me with what they do and how they work with their players.”
Sunday, Jones was a part of a group from Nebraska that participated in the UA ESPN Kansas City Underclassmen camp where he was named the linebacker group MVP.
Earlier this month Jones was a part of a group of Westside football players that attended a Nebraska spring practice. It was a brief trip to Lincoln but he was able to get some face time with the first year NU staff.
“We were there watching practice and after practice I spent some time with coach (Tony) White and (Rob) Dvorak,” he said.”It was pretty brief but I understood that we were there just to watch practice.”
Jones will be a part of a large contingent of in-state players that will be at the NU spring game Saturday. It is just one of the visits he would like to take this spring.
“I was going to go to the Notre Dame spring game this weekend but I wanted to stay home this weekend,” he said. “I will try to get to OU and Notre Dame and at the end of the month I plan on unofficially visiting Oregon.”
Nebraska, Notre Dame and Wisconsin are the three schools Jones said he hears from the most. The Badgers see him as an outside linebacker at the next level while K-State would like him to play the SAM or roll down the safety position. The other schools view him as a weak inside linebacker or playing the Will.
Just a sophomore, Jones isn’t ready to make a decision on his future anytime soon.
“I’m not in a rush,” he said. “I have at least a year to make a decision on my future.”
