Coach Alan Huss made a big addition to his 2027 recruiting class on Saturday as Micah Gordon, a consensus top-40 prospect, announced his commitment to Creighton men’s basketball.
The 6-foot, 185-pound point guard chose the Bluejays over VCU and West Virginia, his other finalists, after receiving more than two dozen offers. He made official visits to VCU (Aug. 27-28), Tennessee (Sept. 4-6) and Creighton (Sept. 11-13) before cancelling other planned visits and setting his announcement date.
The four-star point guard is the 28th-ranked prospect and 10th-ranked point guard according to Rivals, the 30th-ranked player and ninth-ranked lead guard according to ESPN and the 33rd-ranked prospect and seventh-ranked point guard according to 247Sports. His pledge makes him Creighton’s highest-rated commit during the recruiting websites era, slotting in ahead of Jackson McAndrew (36th for ESPN, 39th for 247Sports and 43rd for Rivals).
A native of Plainfield, N.J., Gordon spent his first three years at Plainfield High School, where he made his announcement on Saturday. He averaged 24.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals as a junior for the Cardinals. That included a 42-point, six-rebound, six-assist performance and six other games of 30-plus points plus two double-doubles (21 points and 12 assists, 19 points and 11 assists). He won two state titles at Plainfield.
Gordon will attend SPIRE Academy (a prep school in Geneva, Ohio) for his senior year to play for legendary coach Kevin Boyle, who coached Creighton sophomore Hudson Greer and former Bluejay Ryan Nembhard along with many NBA Draft picks at Montverde Academy.
He played for the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit. According to ESPN’s Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello, Gordon ranked in the top 25 in scoring (18.1 per game) and in the top 15 in assists (4.7 per game) in the EYBL.
Gordon is a strong, crafty finisher around the basket with terrific body control and good touch who can also finish above the rim effortlessly despite his stature. He averaged better than four free-throw attempts per game during his three years at Plainfield and sank nearly two 3-pointers per game as a junior. His quickness allows him to break defenses down off the bounce and live in the paint, finding open teammates when defenders collapse.
Huss and his staff went big-game hunting at the point guard position in the 2027 cycle, hosting a trio of blue-chip prospects in Antonio Pemberton, Jaxson Davis and Gordon. The ambition paid off with Gordon’s commitment, while Pemberton chose Michigan State and Davis committed to Ohio State.
Gordon joins Omaha Westside wing London Dada (41st on Rivals, 65th on 247Sports) and Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) guard CJ Reef in Creighton’s 2027 class.
