Defenses ruled Saturday afternoon in the Class B girls soccer state semifinals at Morrison Stadium, as Blair shut out Omaha Skutt 3-0 and Lincoln Pius X downed Elkhorn 2-0.

Blair 3, Omaha Skutt 0

Kaitlynn O’Neil, Cadence Field and Regan Blattert helped Blair’s girls soccer team end a 25-year drought Saturday afternoon.

O’Neil scored a goal in each half and Field added a goal and an assist while Blattert posted her 12th shutout of the season in Blair’s 3-0 win over Omaha Skutt to send the Bears to the Class B state title game for the first time since 2001.

“Our motto this year has been ‘One Mission,’ so I feel like when you get a bunch of girls that all want to work hard and want to put in the extra hours and want to do everything we can to get here, it’s really special,” Blair captain Laynie Brown said.

Brown has a family connection to the last Bear team to play for a title. Her mother and Blair assistant coach, Ashley, played on the 2001 team that lost to Columbus Scotus in the final. The Bears won titles in 1999 and 2000.

“This has just been such a special year, and we know what’s at stake, and we just want to finish it,” Brown said.

O’Neil opened the scoring in the 15th minute. She dribbled into the box and sent a shot into the upper corner of the net to put Blair (17-0) in front for good.

“It was super important to score first,” Blair coach Nick Hall said. “It takes a little bit of pressure off the defense, and then we can kind of do things a little bit differently.”

Field set up O’Neil to double the Bear lead in the 55th minute. She dribbled along the end line and passed to O’Neil in front of the goal, and O’Neil finished the play.

Field notched her 32nd goal of the season five minutes later. She got the ball near midfield and dribbled around the SkyHawk defense into the box and beat Skutt goalkeeper Grace Scheer inside the near post to push Blair’s lead to 3-0.

Blattert made three saves for the Bears, who have allowed just six goals this season.

“I think everybody sees the goals, but we have a really good defense too,” Hall said.

Scheer made eight saves for Skutt (13-3).

Lincoln Pius X 2, Elkhorn 0

Lincoln Pius X reached its third consecutive girls soccer state championship game with a smothering defensive effort.

The top-seeded Thunderbolts limited Elkhorn to one shot and posted their 12th shutout of the season in knocking off the Antlers 2-0 in the first Class B semifinal.

Lincoln Pius X (16-1) lost in the 2024 Class A state title game to Lincoln Southwest, and the Thunderbolts lost to Gretna East in last season’s Class B final.

“Especially for us seniors that have been here (at the state tournament) for our fourth year in a row, some of us, it just really means a lot and we want to get the job done,” Pius X midfielder Cammie Hodge said of getting back to the state title game.

Georgia Wright did all the scoring the Thunderbolts would need when she converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute to put Pius X in front 1-0.

Hodge doubled the Thunderbolt lead in the 65th minute on a shot from 40 yards out. She lofted her shot toward the goal, and it dropped in between the crossbar and Elkhorn goalkeeper Kinsley Coleman.

Hodge’s goal was her first of the season.

“It meant a lot,” she said. “Everyone kept telling me my time was coming, and it just feels good for this to be the stage that that comes at.”

The Antlers (14-4) reached the semifinals for the first time since 2018.
